SEO, AEO and GEO: a practical checklist for a business website

Reviewed

SEO helps search engines discover and understand your pages. AEO and GEO describe making useful answers easy to find and cite; for Google AI features, the same search fundamentals apply rather than a separate secret ranking system.

Start with a page a customer can use

Choose one customer question per page: what you do, whom it suits, where you operate and what the next step is. Put the answer near the top, then explain the process, requirements and limitations. A page called Services with little detail gives both buyers and search systems less to work with.

Use facts you can support. Identify the business and the person or team responsible for the content. Label examples as examples and link to original sources for platform rules. Do not invent clients, reviews, savings or certifications.

Check discovery before writing more pages

Open the published page without signing in. It should return the right content and status, have one clear title and a canonical URL for that page, and be linked from another useful page. Check that robots.txt and any robots meta tags do not block pages intended for search.

Publish a sitemap containing public canonical URLs, not dashboard links, previews or duplicate filtered views. Verify the domain in Search Console and inspect representative URLs. A submitted sitemap is a discovery aid, not a promise of indexing.

Make answers visible and connected

Explain a service with a direct answer, a sequence of steps, inputs, human review points and failure handling. Add links between the service, relevant guide and contact page. Structure tables and headings so a reader can compare options without guessing.

Structured data must match what people can read on the page. An Article or Organization description cannot make an unsupported claim true. Google says no special AI text file or special schema is required for its AI features.

Measure useful outcomes

Keep a baseline of indexed pages, search impressions, relevant queries, visits and qualified enquiries. Compare like periods and note changes in publishing or campaigns. An AI mention is an observation, not proof that a particular edit caused it.

Start with a few complete pages and update them when the product or policy changes. More articles are useful only when they answer a distinct question. Woro can help prepare content from your business facts; provider access and published-site capabilities must be checked separately.

Questions people ask

Does a sitemap guarantee that Google indexes a page?

No. It helps discovery; Google still decides whether to crawl, index and show the page.

Do I need a separate GEO file?

Google says its AI features need no additional AI file or special schema. Focus first on accessible, useful pages and accurate business facts.
